Summary

Australia's Standby Power Strategy 2002 - 2012. An initiative of the Ministerial Council of Energy forming part of the National Greenhouse Strategy. This document sets out the long-term strategy agreed by the Ministerial Council on Energy to address excessive standby energy used by consumer appliances and equipment.

The strategy:

outlines the measures that governments will use to combat excessive standby;
identifies the products to be targeted in the first of three-year rolling plans under the strategy;
establishes the procedure whereby standby targets will be set for each of the targeted products; and
identifies the sanctions that will apply should suppliers not meet the targets for these products.
