The standard is applicable to electric dishwashers which are intended for household or similar use. A number of performance requirements must be met by dishwashers during a test for energy consumption. These include:
Energy consumption is determined on the program recommended by the manufacturer for energy labelling that is capable of meeting the performance requirements specified above. From April 2004, all dishwashers are to be re-labelled using the "normal" program when tested to the 2003 edition of AS/NZS 2007 Part 1. The ambient air temperature is 20°C ± 2°C and the humidity is 60% ± 5%. All tests are undertaken with a power supply at 240 Volts and 50 Hz.
The Preface of AS/NZS 2007.2 describes the current requirements for energy labelling for dishwashers in Australia and New Zealand.
The Preface and Foreword of AS/NZS 2007.1 describes the recent changes in the dishwasher test procedure in Australia. It also describes the relationship between the Australian Standard and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard for dishwashers (IEC60436-2003). It should be noted that the IEC has undertaken a major revision of the dishwasher standard over the past few years and many of the recent changes have been included in AS/NZS 2007.1-2005.
