NAEEEC Stakeholder Forum - October 2004

Summary of Proceedings

The National Appliance and Equipment Energy Efficiency Committee (NAEEEC) held a one day forum to release a series of publications relating to the regulation of a variety of appliances and equipment

The workshops covered: 

  1. Home Entertainment

    • Set-top-boxes - MEPS and High Efficiency
  2. Water appliance and equipment
    • Water Dispensers (boiling and chilled) - MEPS and High Efficiency
    • Ice Makers - MEPS and High Efficiency
  3. ICT Equipment
    • External Power Supplies - MEPS and High Efficiency
    • Computers and Monitors - MEPS and High Efficiency
  4. Miscellaneous
    • Close Control Computer Room Airconditioning
    • Furnaces and Boilers - MEPS rejected
  5. Airconditioning
    • Chillers - MEPS and High Efficiency
    • Heat pumps - MEPS and Mandatory Labelling
  6. Residential Sector
    • Swimming Pool Pumps - MEPS and High Efficiency
    • Wine Storage Cabinets - MEPS rejected

Plenary

The forum was opened with an address from Hon. John Mickel MP, Queensland Minister for Energy who talked about the Ministerial Council of Energy's work to coordinate efforts by all jurisdictions to improve end-use energy efficiency with a particular emphasis on Queensland initiatives.

Following the opening address Gayle Leaver, Department of Energy, Queensland representative of the Energy Efficiency Working Group highlighted the challenge facing Australia in meeting our climate change and energy efficiency goals and recent advances of the National Framework for Energy Efficiency.

Gene McGlynn, Executive Manager, Energy Efficiency and Community Branch, Australian Greenhouse Office then spoke about proposed strategies to expand and enhance NAEEEP with long term strategies to address standby, gas and lighting products and the proposed initiative, a national high efficiency database.
