Product Overview

Packaged Boilers are not currently regulated for energy efficiency. There are no proposals to regulate the efficiency of packaged boilers at this stage, although gas-fired boilers have been identified as a priority product for further investigation in the Industrial Equipment Strategy. MEPS for oil fired boilers were rejected in October 2004.

The following reports have been released for packaged boilers products:

  • Discussion paper – Industrial Equipment. Discusses the development of a 10-Year Industrial Equipment Strategy, and identifies gas-fired boilers as a priority item of equipment for further investigation (published 2010-SEP).
  • No Action Proposal – Oil Fired Boilers – This report rejects MEPS for oil fired boilers. Report 2004/09 (published 2004-OCT).
  • MEPS Profile – Packaged Boilers. Concludes that MEPS are unlikely to be cost effective for packaged boilers used to generate hot water for domestic central heating due to small market share and mild climate (published 2001-MAR).

MEPS Technical Report – Packaged Boilers, detailed technical report by Mark Ellis & Associates on packaged boilers used to generate hot water for domestic central heating, gives data on market, overseas programs, emissions and program options.
