The Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) Committee maintains enforcement consistency of the E3 Program, across all participating states and territories, through the administration of a compliance program. This ensures that suppliers comply with current registration, labelling and performance mandatory standards. This compliance program incorporates the national check-testing program which aims to provide the community and other stakeholders with information that demonstrates that the overall efficiency goals of the program are being met and that those suppliers not meeting their responsibilities are identified and sanctioned. Products are selected for check-testing using a range of criteria. The process is used to target products that are most at risk of non-compliance. For a detailed description of the process and criteria for selection of products see the E3 Program Compliance Guidelines. Products are sourced from the market place and are generally purchased anonymously. Products are then tested in accredited independent testing laboratories, both in Australia and overseas, to confirm their marketing claims, particularly whether they meet the MEPS and labelling claims contained in the relevant registration application. Since the national check-testing program commenced in 1991, over 1000 equipment models had been check-tested to the end of 2010. The Australian Government shares check-testing information with other governments internationally to maximise its impact and minimise testing costs. More recently a national program of in-store compliance audits of products on sale has been introduced. This is another strategy being used by the E3 Committee to ensure that products comply with labelling and mandatory standards.
