On 01 April 2019, the replacement Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Air Conditioners up to 65kW) Determination was published. The Determination comes into force on 1 April 2020. The Determination sets minimum energy performance standards and labelling requirements for air conditioners up to 65 kilowatts capacity. The principle change from the current requirements is the introduction of a new Zoned Energy Rating Label which includes information on the energy efficiency and annual electricity use of the air conditioner across three climate zones (hot, average and cold) as well as the noise level produced by the device when operating under full load. A new energy rating icon for use in print and online advertising is included in the Determination. Portable single duct air conditioners are made subject to minimum energy performance standards and energy efficiency labelling requiring for the first time.
