Questions and answers about the Zoned Energy Rating Label

Information Sheet: Air Conditioners (heat pumps) New Regulations

On [4 August 2019], an exposure draft of the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Air conditioners above 65kW) Determination was released for public comment. The principle changes from the current requirements are the introduction of minimum energy performance standards (MEPS, and requiring the provision of Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating information at the time of registration) for air conditioners of over 65kW capacity.

The Commonwealth Department of the Environment and Energy and New Zealand’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) have consulted with industry on the regulation of liquid chilling packages (“chillers”) on behalf of the Equipment Energy Efficiency Committee (E3) under the Council of Australian Governments’ (COAG) Energy Council.

On 01 April 2019, the replacement Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Air Conditioners up to 65kW) Determination was published.  The Determination comes into force on 1 April 2020.
