The Light Bulb Saver app shows how choosing energy efficient lights can help you save on your electricity bill. It helps identify the best light bulbs to replace your incandescent and halogen bulbs – and how much you could save by transitioning to LED or CFL.
The app also provides handy tips about choosing the right lighting for each room in your house.
Lighting is responsible for around 10 per cent of the average household electricity bill. Many households can save hundreds of dollars each year simply by installing more efficient light bulbs. For example, whilst LED bulbs may cost more to buy up-front than halogens, LEDs last 5 to 10 times longer and use up to 75 per cent less electricity – so households can save on both replacement light bulb costs and electricity bills.
The app was originally developed by the Swedish Energy Agency and has been customised for use in Australia by the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science on behalf of the Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) Program.
We encourage you to download the app, try it out and let us know what you think. Please provide your feedback to EnergyRatingWebsite@industry.gov.au so we can continue to improve it.
