Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards Regulator to monitor registered products linked to state-based energy efficiency incentive programs

The Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (GEMS) Regulator is focusing on monitoring products being offered under energy efficiency incentive programs within each state or territory to identify non-compliance.
The monitoring activities are the result of information and feedback from states, territories, industry and consumers.
The Regulator is working with the states and territories to verify that products are correctly registered and labelled and remove products from the Energy Rating Registration System if they are found to be non-compliant.
“Once a product has been removed from the Energy Rating Registration System it is no longer allowed to be offered for supply or sale within Australia.” said the GEMS Regulator, Lachlan Bickley.
When the Regulator identifies non-compliance, they take a proportionate response dependent on the party’s history, behaviour, motivation, and intention. This may range from education and support, corrective behaviour, to enforcement.
If you think a product is advertised incorrectly or is incorrectly registered you can Report non-compliance to the GEMS Regulator.
To avoid product compliance issues, registrants and sellers can:
- Logon to the Energy Rating Product Registration system and review the information provided in your product registration. Then ask yourself if the product:
- Complies with its testing requirements?
- Needs a physical, technical or software update?
- Is registered. For example,
- has the registration period expired?
- do you know the registered model number and is it displayed correctly?
- Implement periodic checks to ensure the registered product meets the registration specifications.
