Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards compliance collaborating with National Association of Testing Authorities

The Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (GEMS) Regulator collaborates with others including the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) for engagement and compliance opportunities ensuring participants comply with the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards Act 2012 (the Act).
On July 23, NATA hosted a webinar to provide insights into the GEMS regulatory program. The session featured speakers from NATA and the GEMS Regulator.
Dan Croucher, the GEMS Regulator from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water (DCCEEW), provided an overview of the Act and highlighted the program’s achievements. Dan also discussed the strategic policy objectives of the GEMS regulatory program that "contributes towards Australia’s energy transition and improving the energy efficiency of appliances, equipment and products”.
The GEMS Regulator said the event "was a great opportunity to discuss, with NATA stakeholders, how important accurate and accredited check testing is to the GEMS regulation to ensure confidence in the regulatory regime and its compliance functions".
Robert Caruso, Assistant Director (DCCEEW), who manages the GEMS Check Testing program, explained the compliance and enforcement processes. He emphasised the importance of engaging with suppliers and retailers to ensure they understand and comply with the Act and shared a case study.
Diane Hobday, the Sector Manager for Materials, Assets, and Products at NATA, shared NATA’s role to accredit organisations that calibrate, test, and inspect components according to ISO standards, specifically ISO/IEC 17025 and other information.
The webinar concluded with a question and answer session.
